Pediatric Neurology

Pediatric neurology is the specialist field related to brain, spine, nerve, muscle and neuromuscular diseases in children. It covers a wide field including fever convulsions, slow development and refractory epilepsy.

Patients who come to the pediatric neurology department are first put through a clinical examination, and various details are noted including when the condition began, how long it has lasted and other factors. The general situation of the patient and the development stages that are normal for their age are evaluated and a detailed examination is conducted. Then, based on the results of the examinations, tests are conducted for diagnosis. In some cases, simple blood tests are enough; however, in other cases, further tests (EEG- Electroencephalography, MRI-Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EMG-Electromyography, Genetic Analysis etc.) are required. The follow up and treatment of the disease is then planned according to the test results.
