Many diseases can be seen in breast tissue in addition to cancer

Near East University Hospital General Surgery Department and Breast Health Center Head Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim emphasized the importance of regular check-ups to protect against breast cancer. Saying “Many diseases and complaints related to the breast other than cancer can occur.” Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim touched on the fact that there may be certain complaints related to changes in breast tissue due to hormones, especially in women in adulthood. He said that many diseases such as non-cancerous infectious pathologies, developmental anomalies or variations can be seen in breast tissue. Therefore, Prof. Dr. Besim emphasized that the necessity of a treatment center focused on breast is inevitable, and reminded that the Breast Health Center within the Near East University Hospital continues its activities with this approach.

Pay attention to effective risk factors in breast cancer!

Pointing out the existence of many risk factors in terms of breast cancer, Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim says, “Unfortunately, some of these risk factors are factors that we cannot avoid. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change various risk factors such as age, the presence of a close relative with breast cancer in the family or genetic characteristics. However, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, and various hormone levels are among the controllable risk factors.” Prof. Dr. Besim added that having any of these risk factors does not necessarily mean that breast cancer will develop.

Breast cancer risk can be determined with genetic tests

The risk of developing these types of cancer increases in women with a history of breast cancer among their relatives. Genetic tests are becoming even more important for women of all ages in this group. Changes in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes can be detected through genetic tests at the Near East University Hospital Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory.
