By virtue of professional team and advanced technology, cervical fracture surgeries are performed successfully at Near East University Hospital


After receiving the first emergent intervention at the health facility that he admitted due to a traffic accident that he had last month, 52 year old patient was transferred to Near East University Hospital with various traumatic injuries including neck and knee fractures. As a result of successful surgeries that performed by highly skilled and specialized neurosurgeons of NEU Hospital, the patient is recovering.

The patient first underwent a neck surgery and 2 days latter a knee surgery. Having being monitored in intensive care unit for 11 days, the patient was transferred to the inpatient service. His medication is ongoing. The successful surgeries and accurate medication will ensure the patient’s successful return to the activities of daily life.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public relations Office of Near East University, AŞICIOĞLU, who lost all movement-related functions including speech due to traumatic cervical spine injury occurred during the traffic accident, has regained his vital functions after the surgery and he is expected to begin walking in a short time. Since rehabilitation plays an important role in cervical spine injuries, the patient is currently receiving physical therapy and rehabilitation. It is evident in tests conducted recently that the damage created by injury has been corrected substantially.

Under the helm of neurosurgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğa GÜRKANLAR, a neurosurgery team consisting of seven staff including Neurosurgery Department Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat HARMAN, Anaesthesia Specialist Asst. Prof. Dr. Serpil DEREN performed the surgery that lasted approximately four hours and resulted successfully.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doğa GÜRKANLAR stated 12 patients had undergone cervical surgery within the last one year due to cervical fractures created by injuries based on various reasons such as traffic accidents and diving to shallow water. The patients with temporary loss of motor functions and loss of sensations were operated successfully and pleasing results were obtained through appropriate therapies and rehabilitation.
