Dietician at the Nutrition and Dietetics Centre of Near East University Hospital Gültaç Dayı expressed that it was highly necessary to give breast milk to babies within the first six months and that breast milk is always ready, clean, at an ideal temperature and economical. Furthermore, she said that breast milk is suitable for each mother's own baby and that it is important to start breastfeeding the baby within the first half or an hour after birth.
Breast milk is the best food source for the baby
Dietician Gültaç Dayı pointed out that breast milk is the best food for the baby's soul and body health. Moreover, she stressed that breast milk is always ready, clean, at a suitable temperature and economical. Furthermore, she expressed that each mother's milk contains the most suitable ingredients for her baby. She stated that the milk of the mother with a premature baby was suitable for the premature baby, the milk of the mother with one month old baby was suitable for the one month old baby and the milk of the mother with a 3 month old baby was 3 months old. She also said the following about the feature of breast milk regulating the development of organs and systems:
“Since breast milk contains growth factors that regulate the development of organs and systems, it accelerates the growth and development of the baby. Breast milk has all kinds of nutritional values such as protein, fat, etc. that the baby needs in the first 6 months. For this reason, no additional nutrients, additional liquids or vitamins are required except for vitamin D and fluorine.
The risk of overweight (obesity) is less. The mother's first milk (mouth milk) is very important for the baby, it is the baby's first vaccine. Protects the baby against infections thanks to the white blood cells and preservatives it contains.”
Dietician Gültaç Dayı: “Complaints such as diaper rash, abdominal pain and constipation are less common in babies who are breastfed.”
Dietician Gültaç Dayı said that breast milk prevents the formation of diarrhoea microorganisms and that anaemia is less common in infants fed with breast milk. In fact, she noted that diseases that may develop in older ages decrease the probability. She said:
“Rash, abdominal pain and constipation are less common in babies who are breastfed. It is a natural tranquilizer for the baby. The emotional bond that exists between breastfeeding and mother and baby develops. It causes the baby's intelligence to develop better. It has the feature of protecting against allergic diseases, diabetes, asthma, cancer, vascular stiffness, dental caries and eye diseases with vitamin A it contains.”
Every woman should pay attention to regular nutrition starting from the beginning of pregnancy
Gültaç Dayı stated that mothers should take care of their own nutrition starting from the pregnancy period and that breastfeeding mothers should have a balanced and adequate nutrition. For instance, pregnant women should consume an average of 3 or 4 litres of juicy food per day and also noted that fresh vegetables and fruits should be consumed regularly during the day. She said: “During your pregnancy, do not consume nutrients (ready-made soups, ready-made juices) whose ingredients are unknown and contain additives. Do not use caffeinated beverages, alcohol or cigarettes. Consume at least two glasses of milk a day or dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. Note that onions, garlic, broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, hot spices and dried legumes can change the taste of breast milk. Whilst this creates discomfort in some babies (such as gas formation, refusal to suck), others may not notice at all. If your baby develops some serious unrest, such foods should either be consumed less or not at all. Breastfeeding should be started within the first half or hour after birth. Only breast milk should be given for the first 6 months. Additional foods should be started after 6 months alongside providing breast milk. Breastfeeding should be continued with additional nutrients until the age of two.”
