The 5th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, underwent coronary angiography at Near East University Hospital for a routine check-up. Following the examination, a narrowing was detected in a major artery, and a new stent was implanted; the area where a previous stent was placed was treated with a drug-eluting balloon procedure.

Ersin Tatar, the 5th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, underwent coronary angiography at Near East University Hospital today as part of routine health checks. The procedure, performed by the Cardiology Department, revealed a 70% narrowing in the major artery, and a new stent was implanted.

Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan and Head of Cardiology Department Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu made statements regarding Ersin Tatar’s health condition.

Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Salih Müjdat Balkan stated that the 5th President Ersin Tatar was examined as part of routine health checks. Salih Müjdat Balkan stated that Tatar’s health condition is good following the coronary angiography performed as deemed necessary.

New Stent Inserted, Old Stent Widened with Balloon Method

Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu, Head of the Cardiology Department at Near East University Hospital, who performed the procedure, made assessments regarding the findings obtained after the angiography. Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu stated that they conducted a detailed examination due to Ersin Tatar’s existing cardiac history, and that a re-narrowing was diagnosed in the area of the previously inserted stent, as well as clinically significant narrowings in some coronary arteries. He stated that the necessary interventions were carried out in line with these findings, saying, “We successfully intervened in the vessel where the old stent was located using a specially developed drug-eluting balloon method. In addition, we diagnosed approximately 70% narrowing in the main artery and performed a new stent implantation in this area.”

Prof. Dr. Duygu emphasized that the procedure was completed without any problems. He also stated that Tatar’s general condition was good and that he was not at any life-threatening risk. He added that Ersin Tatar would be monitored under observation for a while, and that his discharge was planned for tomorrow after the necessary checks.
