Nuclear Medicine

The Near East University Hospital Nuclear Medicine Department has been serving our patients since 2010 with the latest technological imaging systems required for modern medicine.

AGE Discovery STE16 device and a GE Infinia double head SPECT Gama Camera are used at our Nuclear Medicine Polyclinic, which isthe only PET/CT in Cyprus.

Additionally, we have two radiotherapy treatment rooms that help us conduct high dose treatments for inpatients.

Diagnosis nuclear medicine tests are non-interventional and safe tests. They can be used for patients of any age, including newborns.

Nuclear medicine imaging systems record the gamma rays emitted by the radioactive substance. The central nervous system, respiratory, circulation, skeletal, urogenital, stomach-intestinal systems, liver and gall bladder tracts, thyroid-parathyroid, suprarenal glands, infections, inflammations and tumours can be detected with these images.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is used in diagnosing diseases in the fields of oncology, cardiology and neurology. PET/CT is a test in which Positron Emission Tomography and Computed Tomography are used together.

PET is a test that determines the physiological functions of anatomical changes before they occur, whereas CT gives information on the size, shape and location of the lesion. Using both these tests together can result in more effective diagnosis.
