50-year-old Pembe Halkseven, who applied to the Near East University Hospital for complaints of a sudden loss of strength on his left arm and legs and a stroke on the left side of his face a while ago, undergone to the radiological examinations and an immediate evaluation of the tests performed by neurology specialists of the Department of Neurology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Kaymakamzade Çulhaoğlu and Assist. Prof. Dr. Sevda Diker.

The brain CT scan revealed that the patient was not affected by cerebral hemorrhage but that there were partially clotted areas on left side of the brain. Considering that the heart may be the source of the clotted part in the brain, a cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) was performed by Onur Akpınar and monitored that there was a moving mass filling the left auricle of the heart. That mass being the apparent cause of the stroke, was handed over to the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery for emergency surgery.

The Near East University Hospital Head of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery Professor. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem and Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu performed the operation and the mass that completely filled the left auricle of the heart and the wall between the two atria was carefully removed in one piece. A recurrent wall was created between the two atria using the patient's own heart tissues. The results of echocardiography performed during the operation showed that the left auricle was completely cleaned and there was no leakage on the reconstructed wall. The specialists reported that the operation was successfully completed and that the patient was hospitalized after 2 days of intensive care and discharged after 1 week after the operation. The removed mass was reported to be benign by the pathology laboratory.
