Establishment
Operative Dentistry department has started giving education and training students in academic year of 2007-2008 year with a group of academic staff including one professor, one PhD and two research assistants. Operative dentistry department focuses mainly on the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of dental caries (cariology). Restoration of the tooth structure by preserving its physiological integrity, aesthetics, masticatory function and maintaining its relationship with its antagonistic counters and periodontal tissues are some of the major fields the courses focus on. Applying the preventive precautions about tooth caries and early diagnosis are other important fields of concern of this department. Preventive precautions include oral health education, fluoride applications, ozone therapy and fissure sealant applications. Apart from these main targets this division also deals with aesthetic applications including tooth whitening, laminate veneering by using adhesive technology, inlays, onlays, anterior and posterior composite restorations. New scientific branches like geriodontology which deals with the specific problems of elderly and recent concepts in dental terminology in all over the world like 'adhesives', 'aesthetic treatments', 'cosmetic treatments' are also practiced in this department. Latest technologies including LED curing lights, LCD monitors, intra-oral camera systems, direct digital radiography and one special unit designed for the use of ozone therapy are available in the clinic. Students' education starts on the 2nd grade and continue through the 4th and 5th grades as clinical practices.
Mission
The mission of Operative Dentistry Department is giving the most contemporary dental training, dental research terms and patient treatment by using the most advanced radiological equipments, laboratory techniques and dental materials with the help of its experienced dental staff. Achieving the preclinical operative experience of our students, providing high quality clinical instructions to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the discipline of contemporary operative dentistry and improving patients' oral health in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are aimed. Also, for private dentists, arrangements, lectures and hands-on clinical courses, symposiums are offered by our department for solving their clinical and practical problems and giving them dental support in their needs.

Offering an up-to-date dental training and education based on contemporary needs in the field of operative dentistry, developing new research projects and supporting the community in educational and clinical needs are the major concerns.
